I'm not saying that Hero System is specifically geared to superheroic play. I'm just casually observing that by taking an extra big swing and putting in some effort, a little old lady can increase her punch damage from 1d6 to 7d6, which will KO any normal person more often than not.

Been doing more Traveller Hero thinking Hero System uses attribute-based skill rolls. Success is typically roll 11+ on 3d6, with +1 for every 5 points of attribute. Normal PCs have attributes in the range 10-20, which means there's very little differentiation. 13 is as good as 17. 1/

Had another con dream last night I was playing in a superhero RPG. But the GM began by making sandwiches for everyone. Out of politenes, I had egg mayo (the GM was extremely mean with the filling). Wwhen I asked what superhero genre it was, the GM just didn't know what I meant 0/5 do not recommend

Just reflecting on how rules reinforce genre both in his they incentivise player choices and how they inform the narrative. Hero System has a maneuver "Dodge", which gives +3 Defence. It particularly suits the superhero genre, where Spidey leaps around constantly, avoiding blows 1/

Been doing more Sci-fi thinking. One Hero System feature is how it separates Stun damage and Killing damage (not the only RPG to do this of course). It also has separate Physical Defence / Energy Defence (PD/ED) to protect vs different damage types, which maps neatly to sci-fi shields. BUT... 1/
