Definitely my fave episode of @sturdyalex.bsky.social’s Podyssey so far. You definitely don’t know the true story of Medusa.

Alex challenges so many accepted ideas; it’s like coming out of a grey tunnel into a polychrome world. A superb final episode to this wonderful first series.

I listened to it three times. First, to enjoy it. The second time, to soak it in. The third, to write down quotes and references. By the end, I was still in awe and vigorously bobbing my head in assent. A great way to close off a phenomenal series!

Another journey into myth and the psyche with @sturdyalex.bsky.social, who invites us to look into the eyes of Medusa without turning to stone. Mute rage, repression, fear and power, it’s all here. And the psychology. Plus great show notes. But Medusa keeps her counsel in the end. Awesome.

People, give this whole series a listen. As someone whose closest connection to Greek mythology was giggling like a child when I saw a T-shirt in Athens that said ‘Oedipus, the original motherfucker’, it’s been amazing to listen to these episodes to see how they echo through to today.

I am so not an urge-a-podcast-on-you person, which is why it’s taken me until the end of Season 1 to urge on you Podyssey — Alex Andreou’s brilliantly entertaining illumination of ancient Greek myths and tales. The thing is, it’s the same with all (reproductive rather than magical) creation myths. To go from one pair to millions, a LOT of shagging (and most of it incestuous) has to happen. How many people know that King Solomon had over a thousand wives and concubines and thousands of children?

I’ve taken my time getting around to this last episode of this outstanding podcast. Great finale to series one. Am I alone in thinking that the Greek myths would’ve been a lot duller if Zeus hadn’t been such a notorious shagger?

This is well timed for me! Doing Greek Mythology at school. We made Medusa today (and one of my pupils was convinced I was talking to her. Maybe later in the term when the stress really kicks in 🤣).

I was having one of those days earlier this week. The dark was with me. Normally, if I can bear to listen to anything, it will be music. Something told me it was the perfect time to listen to the final episode of the ever brilliant #podyssey. I couldn’t have been more right.

Another towering episode from Alex and the team. It’s one of the only podcasts I don’t listen to on a run - you need to sit, listen and savour very morsel of it’s beauty 🏛️ I’ve supported the team at @ko-fi.com to help them put together a second season - please consider doing the same 🙏

It has taken me a few evenings to listen to this incredible episode: many side journeys due to the richness and textured readings and references. Lullabies, lamentations, grief and memory. Absolutely wonderful. I'll need to cycle back to this a few more times.

I listened to this yesterday and it was worth every minute. Excellent analysis of the impacts of trauma as well as the wondrous piss take of a teenage "hero"...oh those sandals! Also an insight as to why my granddaughter (all of 8) did a 🤣🤣 cartoon of the decapitation of ..Peppa Pig..

"Here's Blinkin' At You, Kid"... Algol taken last night, around 45 minutes total exposure. Not sure if it comes across with the bluesky "compression" but if you look reeeeallly carefully you can make out a couple of tiny galaxies, left of the red-ish star underneath Algol. And to the right too.

This was such a brilliant episode to end the series with. I definitely fall into the camp of 'everything you think you know about X is likely wrong...' #Podyssey is one of the few podcasts that every episode is worth listening to. Really looking forward to S2!

If you love mythology or just like knowing interesting things Alex's series is really good. Even more so as it's made by a tiny independent team. In a world of BIG corporate podcasts filled with Mock the Week blokes talking about biscuits it's good to have erudite thoughtful work to enjoy.

'A time before the shape of things was settled' What a wonderful way to describe the period within which these stories emerged and evolved.

Not one to listen to within earshot of kids due to discussions about sexual violence against women and girls, but well worth a listen for the grown ups. These are always educational and entertaining in equal measures and stay in the mind for the rest of the week as you mull things over.

Tremendous episode. Turns the Medusa myth on its head 😅. I was walking through the park and burst out laughing at the line: "...and a magic bag for the head, we can get those from the Hyperboreades, a race of big jolly people who drink a lot, 'Scottish' I think is the name they go by".

This was really good to listen too. These stories still hold up today. Loved this first season.

A superb ending to a superb first season. It goes in directions that I never saw coming, and I found myself better-informed and more curious about things that I didn't expect as well. A truly unique and intellectually nourishing pod series. Honestly, give it a listen
