The art of the soundtrack as mix tape (The Crow, Tank Girl, Cruel Intentions) has been replaced for tracks written for the movie or just orchestral scores and I hate it. I want B-sides from every popular band on soundtracks. I want someone curating it to put crazy combinations together. I miss it.

Authoritarianism is boring. My American friends believe that dictatorships are dramatic with public executions and whatnot. Unlike the movies, dictatorships are unexciting. Life goes on: people get groceries and struggle with bills, as usual. Losing agency in your own society is mostly boring.

My mom and stepdad are from the same diaspora group as Zohran Mamdani’s dad (same like “my stepdad was kicked out of the same town and knows some of his classmates”) and apparently the New York Times doesn’t understand how diaspora works, so I am going to tell you a little about my mom’s people!

How much do you think it costs to make a pair of Nike shoes in Asia? Before you open this thread, take a guess. Settle on a number and then compare it to what you'll learn in this thread. 🧵

I was going to get the train today. But I am increasingly concerned at the deficit I’m running with Great Northern Rail. I buy a lot from them and they purchase nothing from me. Tempted to apply a 20% tariff. Sure my tickets will cost 20% more but it might mean I buy fewer and reduce the deficit.

The administration is removing phone support for Soc Security recipients. Making it more difficult for seniors to get their checks. It’s a back door way to cut SS benefits. Horrific. If you know anyone who is impacted, please help them get online to get their benefits approved

Idea for productising the self-expanding knowledge graph- a site where folks can set their own directive and build their own knowledge graphs, and share them easily. Optional premium features: buy more iterations, change the LLM model, make it private.

In order to sweep up 10-20 million undocumented immigrants into concentration camps government paramilitaries will also pick up millions of legal immigrants & citizens. Non-white citizens, especially who live or work among immigrant communities, will need to always have papers on them.

So I've been thinking about why is it that most programmers I know are excited about AI replacing a lot of what they do and most artists I know are not. What's especially odd is that as far as I can tell, coding is a much more solvable problem because of huge data sets and high checkability. Ideas:
