Except now she's not necessarily the pre-Hartnell anything, because Big Finish have talked from day one about her placement in the timeline being a mystery they're keeping deliberately vague on, despite the fact it was really pretty clearly laid out on screen even if nobody explicitly said it.

I definitely think that's part of it. She's not meant to be "the Doctor" in the way that we know them. She's meant to be "the Doctor who worked for a shady organisation (which included WEEPING ANGELS FFS) and who our Doctor has no memory of being."

Granted I've only tried the first couple of Big Finish episodes, but... I can't take to Jo Martin's Doctor. She feels quite cold compared to a lot of Doctors, thanks to the whole Fugitive/Division side of her character. Are there any BF stories where she's written more warmly?

I don't believe for one second that there was never an earnest plan to put out a Christmas special this year. That plan has broken down for whatever reason, but the BBC doesn't put out a press release for something they have no intention of airing.

The BBC doesn't make TV programmes. BBC Studios, a separate entity from the broadcaster, makes TV programmes. Whatever happens from here they have to commission a company to make it because that's just how they operate. So the idea they can't be bothered to make it themselves is wrong.
