This is magnificent. Particularly because I accidentally had a lovely neoclassical piano composition as a soundtrack in the background.

If you would like to pre-order The Cost of Trust (out on Feb 12th) that would make me happy, but also crucially tells retailers there is demand, so they’re more likely to make an in-store display etc.

if you're wondering why your trans friends everywhere are a little on edge right now, it's because a story about a radical conservative christian student abusing rules and processes to deliberately target a trans instructor consistently gets reframed to omit the entirety of the anti-trans bigotry

It's not just David Walliams who should suffer professional ruin, it's all the senior staff at his publisher involved in implementing a policy whose only possible interpretation is that they believed that he represented a danger to their employees but continued to work with him anyway.

Reached the Christmas break with more energy than I've done in years. Interesting how going from 5 days a week as head of department to 4 days with one day teacher training has changed my energy levels. Eating well and escaping the various bugs has helped!

it’s for exactly this reason that my library network’s catalog system does not retain patron borrowing data, or even permit the creation of linked “family” library accounts. the “free” in “free public library” means, among other things, “free from government interference.”

It would be nice if Walliam’s long-overdue cancellation created space in publishing for children’s authors who are, y’know, *actual* children’s authors. Maybe providing opportunities to those who care about their craft as opposed to ****’s trading on their celebrity status might be a good thing. 🤷‍♂️
