One of the tragedies of surrendering education to so-called AI is that our students (fellow people, rather) will lose the ability to name what is *absent*—of course a pillar of critical thinking. So-called AI is all about plausible, likely presence. That's why "creativity" is one of their key terms.

If anyone wants me to write about how so-called AI thwarts our ability to think of what is *not* (what isn't, what is not there, etc.), you know where to find me!

Yeah, you may as well copy down the phone book and submit it to a journal. I was recently asked to peer review by a leading journal in one of my fields and was happy to see a request not for reviewers to use any LLM or so-called AI. IMO at this point if you don't see those you should think twice.

...admittedly tend to be harsher with film adaptations of novels than they usually deserve. One more thought: Morocco (where it's shot) is absolutely gorgeous. Go watch it if only for that. Anyways, my two cents. Also, if you want me to write a full review, hit me up 😀!

Been thinking about François Ozon's The Stranger, which I saw with students recently [spoilers-ish]. If you are a student or know a student or run into a student on the street tell them to check their email. Someone might be trying to help them! But to do that, they need to reach them. #sigh

I have been teaching Albert Camus' The Stranger for many years and lo and behold, they make a movie adaptation. And the stars align and they bring the movie to town before the semester ends so students can watch it right after having read it. Teacher's dream. Def not 5 stars but a good effort.

I get it that it's a good rhetorical move, but discourse on how the tech bros (or whoever) don't understand human life is all about "friction" makes a big framing mistake. People whose goal is to make as much money as possible don't need to understand something differently. They understand too well.
