I’m a part time librarian and I just want to echo what I’ve seen other librarians say recently: there is a HUGE uptick in requests for social justice, climate justice, abolition, history, etc books and I just want to say nobody is giving up the fight. If anything people are fighting harder #library

My instinct is to make the case that USAID is extremely good, actually. But I feel like it’s more important to say, “What is happening is antagonistic to the foundational document of the nation.”

People really, truly underestimated the importance of USAID as a diplomatic sledgehammer. Why do you suppose Musk dissolved it before anything else? He just chopped the entire country off at the knees, and people have no fricking clue.

Conservatives might find this funny now, but what they do not understand is the power vacuum this is going to leave. Who do they think is going to fill it? Even if you don't care about the human devastation this will cause, the USA will no longer have its power. Musk just gifted it to China.

As someone whose pre-illness career was processing high level documentation, scouting, and travel for the C-suite of a decades-old NGO primarily funded by USAID, let me tell you: This isn't just bad on a human level. The US is losing ALL of its soft power, right now, unfolding before our eyes.
