Autistic people are expected to spend ridiculous amounts of energy untangling unspoken rules to blend into neurotypical society when one health class during elementary school explaining how Some People Communicate Differently And That's Okay could improve our lives massively for the better.

Being a person with autism has not been easy but the reason it hasn't been easy- is because non-autistic people are not taught how to interact with autistic people. Autistic people are expected to socially mask & neurotypicals generally don't have even a base idea of how autistic people communicate.

Every time autism is framed as dangerous or tragic on screen, I think of the kids growing up seeing that. I think of how long it took me to unlearn the shame. Representation matters so much ♾️

If your story treats autistic people as burdens, monsters, or emotionless robots you’re not telling a story. You’re spreading ableism. Hire autistic creators. Listen to us. We’ve had enough ♾️

I used to hide my autism because I was scared of being judged. Now I don’t. Because being autistic isn’t something to fix or hide it’s part of who I am. I’ve struggled. I’ve grown. I’m still learning to love myself.

Seeing autism framed negatively in media can cause anxiety, shutdowns & trauma responses especially for Black autistic people navigating everyday racism & ableism ♾️

Internalized ableism hits harder when the media paints autism as dangerous, for Black autistic people that can spiral into depression, isolation and shame, we need affirming spaces to unlearn that harm ♾️

When autism becomes a scapegoat in public discourse, Black autistic people often face increased policing, literally & emotionally the stress of hyper vigilance is exhausting, our peace is a basic human right NOT a privilege ♾️

Sometimes I forget how far I’ve come. Living with autism, going through loss, pain, and constant change none of it’s been easy. But I’m still here. Still trying. Still growing. And that means everything. 😊

Autism isn’t something to hide. It’s something to own. And I’m proud of who I am every part of me. To anyone out there who feels different You’re not broken. You’re brilliant.

We see the world differently and that’s a strength, not a weakness. Yes, there are challenges. But every challenge I’ve faced has taught me how strong, creative, and resilient I truly am.

As someone with autism, I’m tired of hearing the same false “causes” over and over Tylenol, vaccines, you name it. #Autism isn’t a conspiracy or a mystery to scare people about. If you want to understand, start by listening to us.
