UK fishing depends on migrant workers. And yet policy changes set to come into effect this year will mean the only way migrant fishers will be able to work will be through a loophole, known as Code 7. For migrant fishers in the UK, this bakes in the risk of labour exploitation.

Happy new year! My all sky camera imaged the sky every 15 seconds and this picture shows what happened in the sky in 2025. It shows the length of the night and day with the hourglass shape, the monthly lunar cycle with the diagonal bands, the elevation of the Sun at local noon, and lots of clouds.

Whatâs amazing about this story is that they *reversed* it. Itâs not just a treatment that can stave it off or delay it. It *cures* Alzheimerâs. I know lots of research initially seems hopeful in mice and then doesnât go anywhere, but this could be momentous. I cried.

Agree with all of this, other than "the right will go 'pro-natalist" - I think what will happen is that much of the right will shift from 'blaming our ills on immigration' to 'blaming our ills on ethnic diversity', which is already happening to an extent.

The Palestine Action ban is an incredible story of the criminalization of political speech, but also of solidarity in defense of that speech. As the thread points out, most of those arrested have been older and women. As John Boyce explained here, the ban is part of a broader trend across Europe.
