Finally dumped Windows for good. Everything works until I haphazardly ham-fist my way through vim and break stuff. And I have to backtrack, uninstall a package, reinstall, restore the wrong configs, create a backup of -those- mistakes, and start all over again. no sarcasm, i love this shit. :)
