ICYMI, @kathyparkprice.bsky.social and I asked why @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social hasn't restored *🚘-free roads* taken away from Forest & Silver Lake Parks by Adams (in the @nydailynews.com over the weekend) Mayor Mamdani, return these spaces to the people!

The @mayor.nyc.gov can undo the harm Eric Adams caused by bringing cars back to Freedom Dr and Silver Lake Park Rd. Returning these roads to people does not require legislation or funding, just leadership and a vision for parks as places of refuge from cars. We can do this in parks across NYC.

Like restoring the Bedford Ave protected bike lane, reversing Adams on these park roads will be a strong indicator whether Mamdani will govern streets "audaciously" or will overthink/play politics on small but important street safety/quality of life issues (de Blasio II)

New on John St. b/w Cliff and Pearl Streets, planters put on the sidewalk by a private business to deter the chronic sidewalk parking by trucks and other large vehicles. Lower Manhattan, which has tons of public transit and a booming residential pop, should be pedestrianized.

Great news for all New Yorkers! 🚽 We would also love if @NYCMayor made a plan to improve 60% of NYC public bathrooms, which are in @NYCParks parks. In @NY4P and Play Fair Coalition’s First 100 Days agenda, we call for a bathroom blitz to do just that.

This reminds me that parks and streets are inseparable. Removing cars from Central Park and Prospect Park are legacy TA campaigns that greatly improved the parks and made surrounding neighborhoods more livable and moved NYC toward safer people-centered streets. We need more car-free parks!
