This a big deal: "China’s carbon dioxide emissions have been flat or falling for 18 months" China's economy has grown by ~5% in the last year, so this comprehensively debunks the idea (again) that emissions are tied to growth. So yes, faster progress needed, but this is how you turn the corner.

It's utterly absurd that UK hospitals pig-headedly refuse to act to prevent airborne infections even when being overwhelmed by them, causing avoidable deaths & disability. Petition closes 11 May. It needs 10,000 signatures for a Government response. Currently around 7,000. If in the UK PLEASE sign🙏

Only rapid near-term mitigation can effectively limit peak warming, which is required to hold warming *well below* 2 °C in case of exceedance or overshoot of 1.5 °C.

A gentle reminder that if we miss the 1.5°C target (and we certainly will), the next target is 1.51°C and not 2°C. We need to keep fighting. Every tonne of CO₂ emitted makes the job of future CO₂ removal harder, and every 0.01°C of temperature increase makes the world more chaotic and dangerous.

BREAKING: 2024 is now certain to be the warmest year in recorded history with an expected global average temperature of 1.60C marking the first full calendar year to exceed 1.50C. Global temperatures remain significantly above where they should be despite El Nino having faded.
