Let me make it abundantly clear. Editors can not be replaced by Grammarly or Prowritingaid or hell even Autocrit. Your books will be read by humans and so logically you need A HUMAN to edit or beta read your book. I thought that was common sense, but nah.

Oooh, this is a good post about dealing with edit letters. I particularly like "editors aren’t always right about the solutions, but they’re nearly always right about the problems."

So the point of the editor's alternative solution isn't to say 'it must be so'. It's just a means to open the writer's mind up to possibilities. If Y is the problem, don't get stuck on "I don't wanna do X thing to fix Y": focus on fixing Y in what seems the best way to you.

The point of an editor's suggested change isn't to say "do it like this", it's to give the author a snapshot, a possible solution, because illustrating the solution both makes the problem clearer, and makes the change seem possible.

As a writer, when I get a specific 'here is a way you could change it', I almost never follow it, because I'm a stubborn cow/it's usually not quite right/I have a better idea. but as an editor, I always tried to provide specific suggestions *and I still would now*.

A common stereotype is than Jan 6 was done by hicks or poor folks. People traveled there. Money was involved. It was rich people. The car dealership owners or real estate people. The landed gentry of the burbs. This is proven by the many, many arrest records.
