In Donkey Kong Bananza, signs appear that indicate that Tiny Kong owns a bank. The official German website for Donkey Kong 64 claimed she was a tax official and managed the savings of DK Island. Whether giving her a finance-related job is a deep cut reference or an astounding coincidence is unknown.

Sometimes I think I’m hyperbolic in how much I like this game. But god, it captures a freedom of movement and learning and even puzzle solving with higher end challenges. The retro DK challenges were so disappointing compared to grinding out the right solutions. The honeymoon never ended. I love her

I love how the Switch 2's Special Notification screens for DK Challenge have the Shigehisa Nakaue illustrations of Donkey, Diddy, Dixie, and Cranky randomly pop up in the corner. The series is really feeling like a cohesive brand again, maybe even more than it did during the Rare years.

A friend recently was reflecting that they felt art direction in games has gotten generally worse. I think it's a good use of our time & energy to celebrate the fact that while there are a lot of whiffs in the world today, the recent era has also seen some of the greatest of all time

A lot of people seem to mix up "AAA games" with "realistic visuals," and it's very odd. Saw someone claiming Pokopia and Animal Crossing aren't AAA games. Some big games are cute/cozy/chill/cartoonish, too. You can like a big game. It doesn't make you terrible. I promise.

For those who don't know Velan, it is comprised of Vicarious Visions veterans who left as Activision began to hollow that studio out and turn it into a support studio for Call of Duty. Good for them.
