I remember once having a long conversation with DK64 software engineer Simon about the various text formatting options he'd put into the code. The English script hardly made use of them but the Japanese localisers created what he described as "a rainbow of text". Some examples clipped from YouTube:

This earthenware figurine, from the Colima culture (Mexico) is thought to represent a ceremonial dancer, wearing a cocrodile like helmet. Curiously, the helmet can be removed! Currently part of the Houston Museum of Fine Arts.

Bananza pulled an exceptional trick by bringing all of K. Rool's personas together so neatly. He is a pirate (as are Kremlings generally), a mechanical genius (of somewhat shitty and slapdash technology), he loves combat sports. These are more than just "costumes", they are character traits. ...

I'm on FF3 now and... I really, REALLY like it. I love the variety of jobs and how the game forces or encourages you to play around and utilize different jobs and abilities. The structure feels very cool and sophisticated for its time, never feels stale, great "it all opens up" moments

Btw I did end up finishing FF1 some time ago. Despite the chaddification I liked it quite a lot. I also found the "change to a pixelated font" option right after this lol, it was right next to the classic/orchestrated music option but I kept glossing over it
