Understand that identity erasure is the bedrock of #adoption as we know it. It’s entirely independent of the distinction between “closed” and “open” adoptions. Virtually every adoption decree results in the adoptee receiving a *new birth certificate*, as if their very origins had been transformed.

Doesn't matter who's good or bad within a racist, classist system intentionally designed to uphold a particular standard of parenting by punishing those deemed undeserving. It's our duty to be absolute in our negativity when discussing systems whose sole purpose is to destroy families. 🥚

Adoptees 🥚 when they introduce themselves invariably have to talk about their adoption situation and make it a polarized "good" or "bad" situation. But I refuse to comfort Kept, especially APs. If you're going to challenge me, then I'm going to talk statistics and you know, reality.

Well, individual happiness cannot be a legal argument for lawmaking. Individual happiness does not remove blatant and obvious illegal actions in the adoptions structure. Individual happiness is a very poor way of trying to frame critical voices as unhappy adoptees - which is a ruler etchnique. 5/

#Adoption is not progressive. When we use adoption as a sign of a progressive society, we completely ignore the fact that the adoption industry is founded on conservative ideas of who is allowed to have a family and who isn't.

in the words of one baby-scoop birth mother, "I would have an abortion any day of the week before I would ever give up another child for adoption." In #adoption, vulnerable pregnant people are exploited--pressured & deceived--into making a catastrophic, traumatic decision that alters their lives.

behind every #adoption is a catastrophe. I believe that in our culture it is taboo to speak of the horrendous trauma of relinquishment. It is a moral crime that our society has built whole institutional systems—legal, criminal, and economic—to corner human beings into relinquishing their children.

#adoption takes the decision about the degree and duration of a person’s legally recognized connection to their adoptive family, and of their legal separation from their original family, entirely out of the hands of the one person whose power to make those decisions should be supreme: the adoptee.
