Catherine O’Hara didn’t steal scenes she just showed up and ownership automatically defaulted to her

I was about to post some random thought about games here and immediately saw that Catherine O’Hara had passed. I literally stopped dead in my tracks. What an actress, why a presence, her being in a movie always elevated it. I wish she could’ve stayed with us so much longer.

Today wasn't the most successful day for me, had plans with a friend cancelled because of flooded train lines, my barbers was too busy to get a haircut, my Sky box is on the fritz and needs a replacement... But at least I'm not Darren Aronofsky and didn't make an AI TV series.

To add to this, when I saw both of them on Friday I counted 10 other people in the first showing of the day for Mercy, and just 2 for Return to Silent Hill. It's brought me some comfort to see that audiences have resoundingly chosen to reject these films in the UK.

When it comes to films I feel negatively about, one that doesn't do anything for me is a more preferable experience for me than one that I actively have a bad time watching. Return to Silent Hill may have been utterly disposable, but at least it didn't give me a massive headache like Mercy did.

...You know, now the Oscar nominations are out I really need to stop tempting fate more often, because WOW my post from this morning has blown up in my face.

Out of the six new films with fairly wide releases coming out this week, during awards season no less, of course Weston-super-Mare doesn't get No Other Choice but does get Mercy and Return to Silent Hill, which based on the reviews are fairly certainly the two worst of the whole lot.

We're two weeks into 2026 and 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple has set an incredibly high bar for horror the rest of this year. There are images and setpieces in this so audacious I'm never going to forget them. My review is already drafted and I can't wait to share it from Saturday!

Rental Family definitely seems to be going overshadowed during this awards season which is a massive shame as it's absolutely wonderful and Brendan Fraser is terrific in it. Saw it back at LFF and then watched again last night at a secret screening, not a single walkout in my audience.

I have such a love-hate relationship with #TheTraitors, because on one hand the unconscious bias (especially this series) is extremely noticeable and frustrating, but on the other the last 20 minutes of tonight's episode were some of the most edge of my seat TV I've ever seen.

Not surprised about Jesse Eisenberg being my most watched actor last year on Letterboxd as I saw 8 films with him (including rewatching A Real Pain), but Steven Soderbergh as my most watched director is a considerable improvement over Zack Snyder for 2023 and Todd Phillips for 2024.
