When I first saw this piece created by @sabinalewis.bsky.social for my chapter "Unexpected Guests", I literally said out-loud "Holy shit."

This is an incredibly nerdy thought but I really wish that my favorite applications (like Finch and @todoist.com ) were open source so I could contribute to making them better.

It isn't always easy to remember that this is a world worth saving. But it is.

When talking about this in the context of engineering proposal writing we always describe it as "punching lotto tickets". Optimize/worry about what's in your control (quality). Then just put it out there as much as possible (grab all the lotto tickets you can). So much isn't in your control!

We play our own version of the license plate game on road trips. “Adult fun” is sex stores. Dead people is cemeteries. You only get a point for trains if they’re moving. And two points for tractors currently in use.

Last night, I said my favorite thing I've ever said at DND with my siblings. I'm playing a Paladin of the Common Man and met a soldier ransacking a temple. I asked him who do you answer to, and he said "My Lord. Who do you answer to?" I said "the People" and hit him with my hammer (and sickle).

My dad just got a book by the poet Hannah Arendt. This quote I found particularly apt: "Storytelling reveals meaning without committing the error of defining it."
