No real beef with the gist of this, but I am so, so sick of tongue-clucking about “division.” We have a president waging a “war within” (his own words!) against domestic urban populations. That had damn well better be divisive.

Come for the Louis CK diss, stay for the paean to developing a love for Marvel Comics as a child in Britain in the 70s ("when they were written by hippies on LSD").

I struggle to inhabit the mental reality of the working truck driver who makes late-night deliveries and carries a knife, realizing the moment he needs it finally arrives when a former famous football guy suddenly violently accosts him with extreme opinions about the hotel’s cooking oil.

Pritzker has been great. But these reports that IL state police are assisting ICE, harassing and beating people who record ICE, and helping arresting protesters all seem to be supported by some video. If state cops are helping feds suppress rights over governor’s objections, that’s a big problem.

Can a governor preemptively call up their state Guard as a matter of state security and safety to block the feds from attempting to mobilize them? Then assign them to, like, fill in for their missing selves on their regular jobs while they're on guard duty?

Again, patriotism isn’t about loving America as is, it’s about believing it can be something better. Also, anyone who says my grandfather fought in a segregated unit at Normandy for fascism can take a hike.

If you’re white, your accomplishments are your own and you can resent and criticize the country all you like, but if you’re black and successful you should be grateful to white people for allowing you in their presence.

The Pogo comic strip by Walt Kelly debuted on October 4, 1948, in the New York Star. It ran until the paper folded in January 1949, but the strip was picked up for national distribution in May 1949. Before the strip, Kelly had written and drawn the characters in Dell comic books since 1941.

No one, and I mean NO ONE, in Hollywood is talking about Tilly Norwood except over drinks for a chuckle. Actors are such an important part of the creative process - you want an actor who can surprise you every take, not one whose performance you dial up and down on a laptop. This is an ad campaign.
