Honest question. How to do you reconcile the Anti Blackness, misogynoir & degrading comments coming from Talarico’s online supporters who are gleefully cheering about the voting issues in Crockett’s district? Do they think Talarico can win without those voters? Because the disrespect is vile.

I think both candidates and their supporters played a role in turning the primary as nasty as it is. I think both of them were gonna have to do clean up work, regardless of who won. That said, racism is a real problem in politics. And while I don’t know how we fix that, I damn sure want to try.

As an observer of this conversation (and I too appreciate that you responded) and this campaign, I'm sick of white male candidates benefiting from racism during the campaign, then leaving it to the Black candidate to clean it up--and voters to stomach it.
