Never forget that Norman Rockwell, debatably the most famous American artist to ever put brush to canvas, was not afraid to show the ugliness along with the good. Having his work/reputation sanitized and trimmed into marketable nostalgia is about American as it gets.

I really don't like having thought bubbles when I write graphic novels-- I'd rather let the facial expressions and body language speak. As a result, my longer works are about 33% silent. There are long, 10-20 pages long scenes with absolutely no dialogues.

I strongly believe in the breadth and influence of independent art, to grant us oblique angles on the world and ourselves. But also every indie game is somewhere on this spectrum:

one off trolls have (and will) always been a thing. but repeatedly seeing *brutal* sustained doxxing, swatting, and the bottom fall out for support structures for at-risk individuals (and friends) was... if there's one lesson for to learn -- never enable that again.

every time a kink art harasser goes on about "harm", i think of the many hours of crisis support I & others gave back in ~2018. (eg, kradeelav.com/cancelled-resources.html) i'm glad more people are changing minds, but ill always think of the artists who are no longer with us due to this harassment.

In all seriousness, a lot of the edgelordy cynicism of my youth could not survive the simple act of going outside and doing the most lethargic and low effort of regular volunteer actions.

Negativity bias has a bunch of people immediately gravitating to believing the worst about folks. YET in reality, most people are pretty decent and are trying to live their lives. Folks buy into the "people are terrible" hype and that only serves other terrible people.
