Equity & justice are major issues in cost-effectiveness utilitarian mitigation scenarios. Many in the scientific community are working on addressing them. Important to flag though: @ipcc.bsky.social does not have models, or run scenarios. It is an assessment of what is out there in the literature.

The UNFCCC has postponed the deadline for the 3rd round of NDCs with pledges until 2035 — but there's no time to delay urgent climate action. 🌍⏳ So far, only 13 countries have submitted their pledges: unfccc.int/ndc-3.0. We need stronger commitments now! #ClimateAction #NDCs #UNFCCC

Considerations of fairness in mitigation efforts can get complicated (see earlier post), especially when we look beyond CO₂. In a new paper led by Mingyu Li, we propose an approach to address this, allocating a remaining 'global warming budget' to countries in line with the Paris Agreement’s goals.

The share of wind & solar in primary energy has gone from 5-10% in IPCC AR5 to 20-40% in IPCC AR6, for deep mitigation scenarios. Scenarios are often used to explore uncertainties, but uncertainty in solar & wind does not seem to be a dimension that was explored in AR5. rdcu.be/d7jWG 1/
