Janet Yellen has inspired myself and so many other female economists. Her dedication to economics and public policy is an inspiration and it was incredible to be there for the first ever Janet Yellen Public Service Award!

We lost Kate Ho far too soon. She was a brilliant scholar (anyone who works on the economics of health care markets is influenced by her work), a wonderful colleague & teacher, but first and foremost a fundamentally decent, kind & caring human being. She is missed.

John Leahy, the chair of Michigan’s economics department, has suddenly passed away. I deeply mourn his loss. He was exceptionally smart and humorous, but most importantly, he had deep empathy. It is so difficult to process what happened. May he rest in peace.

I have participated in the 'Fed Chair sweepstakes' like any good Fed watcher. It matters. But **absolutely pivotal** for next year is the Supreme Court decision on Lisa Cook. If the President can remove members of the Board without review, it's game over for Fed independence.

This is beyond unworkable. Universities are very decentralized because no provost can review 4500 syllabi. Nor should they. It is not possible for a central administrator to have the content knowledge needed to micromanage 150 programs. It is the highly diverse faculty that holds that knowledge.
