I have this weird thing where I find some small box or even card games more frustrating to get into / learn than bigger box games when the complexity level is higher. I feel bigger box games accommodate the complexity more easily.

Ok I will say it - Saashi and Saashi games are some of the most overhyped board games in the business. Love the art but most of them I have played are just ‘meh’.

Man honestly considering how fucked up the world is nothing in board games truly grinds my gears enough to rant over it. I am genuinely thankful for the hobby overall and the craft of board game design and publishing.

You may need to play a game multiple times to review it but you absolutely do not need to do so to determine you don’t like it. Hardly any other comparable product expects you to have had to use it multiple times if you didn’t enjoy it at first pass.

I still don’t think I have fully articulated exactly which type of board games I like the most 🤔

It seems board game publishers are increasingly turning to cardboard video games as the pathway to survival. And I don’t exclusively mean video game ports, I include big minis games in this category too. To each their own as long as this doesn’t push out affordable family style board games!

Am I imagining this or are more content creators covering board game apps / board game adjacent video games these days? Do you think it’s a good idea to cross this contentious analogue / digital divide?

A couple of things: It’s a nice two player experience that’s tense but not intense. The emergent narrative is great, with plenty of back and forth moments that feel like history unfolding (in about 30 mins)

Which board game(s) have you played in 2026 that completely blew you away?

This probably nets out as mixed, some aspects of my new interface with board games are good, some not so much. Overall I guess I feel a lot less intensity in my experience of board games. I do miss the heady days of board game obsession but things feel more balanced.

Yesterday we played our first game of #EternalPalace with our friend N. Overall we enjoyed it and would be happy to play again adding some of the expansions. Watching our paintings develop was interesting as was getting to admire our landscapes at the end. #boardgames
