Community sponsorship works on a small scale, but to make it a main route, and, again, this is not a "new route", is guaranteed to mean fewer people overall can seek asylum in the UK, especially as Labour has closed such actual safe routes as family reunification in practice. 3/

Let's start with the "new safe routes". This is a rejigged Community Sponsorship Scheme which has been around for a decade. As part of a functioning system it isn't a bad thing, but as a primary route it is highly exclusionary and puts the onus for protection on individuals rather than the state. 2/
