The pope becoming an insightful AI pundit is really a fascinating thing to see. He's not buying the hype, but he's not being a hater either. Magnifica Humanitas is the kind of work that only intellectually serious religions can make. Reactionary Christianity makes human slop, by contrast.

while you’re not Catholic I thought you’d appreciate the Tolkien quote the Pope used in his new encyclical. It’s from Gandalf as Aragorn & Co are deciding on marching to the Black Gate to play out the deception of having the Ring and so keep Sauron’s attention off Mordor:

As a former professor what do you think of the Harvard faculty voting (458 of the 659 who voted) to cap the number of As that can be given in a class to 20% of enrollment + 4? (Currently 60% of all grades at Harvard are As.)

Huh. Even Harvard faculty have had enough. 458 of the 659 faculty who voted, voted to cap the number of As that can be given in a class to 20% + 4. (Overall at Harvard 60% of grades are As currently).

Well that’s fascinating! Starting June 1 people can pay all of $9 to go though a (very!) off-airport actual TSA checkpoint in Framingham, MA and then get bused to Logan and dropped off *air-side*. It’s a pilot program that initially will only be available for Delta and JetBlue flights.

Have The Expanse novel writers or TV writers ever gone on record as being "Star Trek: The Motion Picture" fans? Because S3 Eps 9-10 certainly and obviously borrowed stuff from ST:TMP. (I'm only up to S3E11, so no spoilers please.)
