Just to talk a minute about Sam Neill in JURASSIC PARK - the most important film when I was 8 - what I love about that performance is that Grant really feels like an academic. His life is completely about one thing, and he’s intensely serious about it, but he is also a big old nerd about it.

The defense that they only used it for “lighting and texture” is weird too. You’re making an animated film. A film! Lighting and texture are pretty important. That’s like me saying I only used AI to help me pick out which verbs to use.

Another reason this show works so well is that the sketches are typically quite short. Ending with “Why are you guys bullying me?” is perfect, why drag it out? This also makes the occasional extra long sketch (like “Calico Cut Pants”) even funnier somehow

My first favorite SF book when I was 8 was Wells’ THE TIME MACHINE. The ending, when the time traveler goes into the far future (giant crabs!) remains one of my favorite passages in all of SF. That abrupt transition from human-centered earth to something else has always stuck with me.
