I was told today that SKY’S END was nominated for the Colorado Bruce Spruce Young Adult Book Award!

Just finished the third draft of my next book. I've juggled working on this one between working on DOWNFALL, BEHIND THE GLASS, and reviewing the SKY'S END screenplay. I track my word count daily. 129 days of work to get to this point. I start the fourth draft tomorrow!

For my students, I'm doing a raffle drawing where students can enter earned tickets to potentially win a signed set of the Above the Black trilogy, and I'm pulling the winner's ticket when DOWNFALL comes out on March 17th! My students are so excited!

It's still quite unbelievable to me that after so many years of trying, and after all the rejections, by the end of this year I'll have FOUR books out between two publishers.

I've started the third draft of my new book. This is when it really becomes fun for me. Revision, discovering characters in greater detail, smoothing the text, cutting and moving scenes around. 😀

Something I really appreciate as an author is when I'm doing an event, the bookstore sends around post-it notes for readers to write down their names. It makes it SO much easier for me when I'm signing books without having to ask the reader to spell their name!

It's so unbelievably exciting to write books that you love and then hear from readers that they love them, too!

Got a note from a reader who said they were going to skip school the day DOWNFALL comes out so they can read it. I'm torn between the teacher/author parts of me 🤣

Wrote for five hours today. It was very productive and I had a lot of fun. Excited about how this book is shaping up!

Just peeked at the first page of my first novel I finished fifteen years ago. And I'm so glad I didn't publish it! The first page doesn't even make sense! But I am still proud of it. I wouldn't be the writer I am today without the lessons my first few books taught me.

Something that has helped me as an author is changing my mindset. Instead of being upset when I get a negative review, I try to be thankful they gave it a chance. Before I got published, I dreamed of the day when readers would give my books a chance. I'm living my dream.

The audiobook for DOWNFALL is now being recorded! Vikas Adam, the audiobook narrator, sent me a video last night of the very first lines of my book being read. It's gonna be magnificent! March 17th can't get here fast enough!

Super exciting to get the email from the audiobook director and going over the pronunciation guide for her and the series' awesome narrator, Vikas Adam. This is one of my favorite parts of releasing a new book.

My wife is reading over my screenplay notes today. She's my alpha reader--always reads what I write. I'm sending in my notes tomorrow. 😀

I had the strangest dream. A reader tracked me down to sign and personalize his book. But he refused to tell me how to spell his name. He said he was Derrick, and I asked, "So do you spell it 'Derrick' or 'Derek'?" And he just refused to answer. I woke up before I signed it.
