Sometimes, I book interviews with authors without having read any of their books yet. K.L. Walther was one of those authors that I booked first, then went on a reading binge, ahead of her release of We're A Bad Idea, Right?, so scroll down to check out our chat. We're A Bad Idea, Right? follows Audrey as she's making some major life decisions.

Book Review: “A Stage Set For Villains” by Shannon J. Spann
YALLFest doesn't usually do ticketed signings for debut authors, but when they did for Shannon J. Spann, I was excited that it came with an early copy of the book. A Stage Set For Villains is told from Riven's perspective, starting with an incident in her childhood. A Player, or immortal actor of the playhouse curses her when she's going to get marked, which will prevent her from being able to lie.

Planet Comicon KC 2026Â Preview
The nerds are heading to downtown Kansas City this weekend for Planet Comicon 2026 at Bartle Hall. Several comic conventions are holding their events the same weekend this year, March 27-29th, which gives the event a little competition. For fandom members in the midwest, Planet is branding itself as the affordable alternative to C2E2 in Chicago. A three-day adult ticket for Planet comes in around $100 a person, while the same level ticket for C2E2 runs a little over $150 each with taxes and fees.

Book Review: “Beth is Dead” by Katie Bernet
Growing up, one of my favorite books was Little Women by Louisa May Alcott. Yes, I was such a Jo, so don't act surprised. Now, as an adult, I love a good murder story, so when I heard a book was blending the two, I was intrigued and excited. Beth Is Dead is a multi-POV/multi-timeline story from the March sisters. We get snippets from each of the four girls, leading up to and after the death of Beth March.

Book Review: “Woman Down” by Colleen Hoover
Curiosity got the best of me, y'all. I've read a couple Colleen Hoover books and been so-so on them overall. That paired with all the drama of her past and the It Ends With Us legal saga made me a bit hesitant to pick up anything else of hers. When the original jacket copy for Woman Down came out, it sounded very close to real life, and piqued my interest.

Book Review: “Red City” by Marie Lu
I've been a fan of Marie Lu's books for years, so when I heard she was dropping an adult novel, I was highly intrigued. We've seen several YA authors switching to adult novels over the last year or so, which always piqued my interest in the story idea that pulled them away from their genre. For Red City , there's a lot of factors that make this an adult story, and I would agree that there's no real way to make it YA.

How Does Finding Her Edge on Netflix Compare to the Book by Jennifer Iacopelli?
Netflix dropped a new sports romance tv show, just in time for the Olympics. Book Review: “Detour” by Jeff Rake and Rob Hart
I first met Jeff Rake at San Diego Comic Con the summer before his show Manifest premiered, so my ears perked up when I heard he was writing a book. I did my darndest to get a ticket to the ARC giveaway at New York Comic Con, and came home with an early copy. I didn't feel like digging it out of my shelves, so when it hit the Pengiun Random House Audio review platform, I downloaded it and hit play.

Book Review: “Pitcher Perfect” by Tessa Bailey
It's long been established that I love Tessa Bailey and most of her books (y'all know I'm honest...), so it should come as no surprise that I grabbed the latest book in her Big Shots series, Pitcher Perfect. In the previous book, Dream Girl Drama we got a scene where the Bearcats ended up in a brawl at a pick-up baseball game.

Book Review: “Julia Song is Undateable” by Susan Lee
I adore Susan Lee and when she first started talking about writing an adult romance, I was definitely intrigued. When the audiobook hit LibroFM for reviewers, it was a mad dash to download... even though I was buying a physical copy too. I don't have a problem with patience at all.... I bet you'd never guess that the main character in…

Book Review: “The House Saphir” by Marissa Meyer
Marissa Meyer is back on her retelling old stories vibe. This time, she's giving Bluebeard a romantasy twist in The House Saphir . Our main character, Mallory, can see ghosts and has found a way to monitize it. She gives tours of a home where Count Bastien Saphir killed his first wife, with a little help from her ghost. When Bastien's great-great grandson shows up, he could out her for some fraudulent behaviors, but instead, he offers her and her sister a job.

Book Review: “The Fundamentals of Being A Good Girl” by Julie Murphy and Sierra Simone
I fell in love with the magical bestie duo of Julie Murphy and Sierra Simone when they published their first book together, A Merry Little Meet Cute . I was so bummed when they wrapped up the Christmas Notch series at three novels and two novellas, but they comforted me with the knowledge that they would continue writing together. Now, we get to celebrate their jump into the world of academia.

BLOG: I happened to glance at the negative reviews of Tony Danza's memoir, and the reasons people gave for low ratings baffled me. I'm getting on my soapbox about why we evaluate fiction and non-fiction differently. Read about it here.

Why we should evaluate fiction and non-fiction details differently
Welcome to a session of Stephanie on her soapbox. I recently read Tony Danza's book I'd Like to Apologize to Every Teacher I Ever Had and loved it, but when I went to Goodreads, I found a whole lot of negativity. It baffled me because I found this book to be conversationally written (which makes for an easy reading experience), fast paced, detailed, informative, and genuine.

New Book Review! One of my favorite reads of 2025 (and yes, this review has been sitting in my drafts that long...) is Tony Danza's memoir, I'd Like To Apologize to Every Teacher I Ever Had, which details his year as a rookie teacher. Check it out!

Book Review: “I’d Like To Apologize to Every Teacher I Ever Had” by Tony Danza
Did you know Tony Danza wrote a book about his time as a teacher? Neither did I until I was preparing to be his conversation partner at Indiana Comic Convention 2025. I must say, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. Tony Danza is a beloved actor who got his start in the 70s with Taxi, but before that, he earned a teaching degree.

Book Review: “The Storm” by Rachel Hawkins
Rachel Hawkins has been an author I've read either first or almost first for the last couple years, since that's just how her books time out for releases. This year was no exception, and The Storm was my fourth finished book of 2026 (on the fourth... oops? Lol). Thanks to the publisher for sending an early copy to keep my New Year's weekend booked.
