I think this is part of my generation's confusion about AI. We were raised on a culture that warned about these dangers repeatedly -- from WarGames to the Terminator films to the Matrix, and countless other dystopian futures in between -- and now those cautionary tales are being celebrated.

Many of us pursued degrees and employment in law/journalism/science/medicine precisely because those studies sought to embrace a truth unencumbered by opinion and petty personal perspective, to promote something approaching truth. They are now nearly indistinguishable from religions and fandoms.
