The feedback thing is so important to stress. When I do coaching, I've talked to people who have workshopped first chapters to death, and they don't even have a finished draft yet. This very often keeps them from moving forward. No one should see your novel for a LONG TIME imo.

honestly think the three big Destroyers of Early Drafts are: 1) overly specific feedback too soon in the drafting process; 2) knowing what you want to say before pen touches page (no exploration); 3) people and animals you love (small children, echidnas, etc.)

one of my favorite bits of feedback is the very vague "this could be stronger" because it's not attempting to solve the poem for me, it's saying in this section in particular I have yet to rise to the occasion of being my best self there; it's the "this is you-ish when I really want you" of feedback

one unexpected outlook change from being a dad is taking the self care people 10x more seriously when it comes to dealing with weirdly directed anger and rage (including Online). many angry posts should have been naps or little packets of crackers

I don’t pray but sometimes as I’m driving away from the grocery store I think “blessed be the LactAid testers”

my wife got me two Cool Jackets for Christmas and honestly forgot how good Having A Cool Jacket specifically feels
