I regularly ask ppl what items have been thrown away during sweeps and this week they've said: Family pictures of dead relatives, housing waitlist paperwork, ID, a phone book with the numbers of family they don't know by heart, cash they were saving for an apartment deposit.

Sadly, we see the same thing every Thanksgiving season. Piles and piles of food that an unhoused person is unlikely to be able to cook left outside on the ground near tents but not handed to anyone directly - so only the rats will eat it.

Idk what people think happens when you report an encampment, but they don't get any help. They get beat by police. They get fined and their tents, food, blankets, IDs, ashes of their loved ones, medicines, etc. thrown away. They get more traumatized + desperate than before.
