My dad programmed microprocessors by hand in the 80's. He'd talk as wistfully as the linked blog post reads about how much fun he had in his time playing with microprocessors and I'd just nod along. I had a nice phone call with him yesterday, and I found myself being the wistful one. 🥹

It'd be really nice if the listRecords XRPC call had arbitrary filters. I'm working on adding @standard.site support to heron, and it'd be nice to be able to list documents for a publication. Atm I can just fetch them from a user's pds regardless of publication.

@pfrazee.com there's currently a app.bsky.feed.defs#contentModeVideo Def which is used for video only feeds. Could we have a app.bsky.feed.defs#contentModeMedia for media only feeds? There are so many well curated feeds that have photos or videos exclusively that would benefit from this.

2D scrolling on Heron is one of my favorite features. There are so many amazing nature photographers on here and the right layout really helps make the content pop.

Trying something fun with the Heron gallery: support for 2D scrolling. It will be available in feeds where all the posts have media, like a profile's photos or videos, or special media only feeds like videos or some made on @graze.social.

Also, we probs need a standard.site equivalent for music on ATProto for apps that want to integrate with @rocksky.app, @teal.fm and similar music based apps.

With Moltbook taking of as it is, and the folks at Meta wanting to put AI profiles everywhere, atproto labelers are more important than ever. Knowing who or what you're interacting with is so important in building trust and feeling safe.

The latest Heron update is rolling out with a few improvements: You can now mute specific words and accounts, or block accounts. You can now choose who can reply to your posts. Added a trending ticker to the home page. Added cute animations for liking and bookmarking posts.

Do feed generators have a canonical order? Heron is offline first, which means timelines are saved to a local db first and retrieved from there. When retrieving, items are sorted by indexedAt. It seems that indexedAt doesn't implicitly mean the order of the feed. Should there be a field for order?

Heron 1.2.5 is rolling out with a few updates! First, a contribution from @t1c.dev, they added dynamic theming! Heron now can use a dynamic theme based off your device's wallpaper. Next is support for alt text for media uploads, and you can make the bottom navigation bar shorter if you prefer.

Fwiw anyone on android who wants a smoother experience should check out @heron.tunji.dev (not involved, just a huge fan). Really highlights what a good native app can look like. Still early days so expect some rough edges but the bones are much better

Anyone on Android have any oauth callback issues with firefox for Android? Before returning to the app, it seems to consume the oauth redirect token rendering it useless when its app side.
