ICE is running around Chicago harassing people for not being white. Just a year ago, that was illegal in the United States and now it’s commonplace. That’s not making America great again.

South Shore Residents Return To Ransacked Apartments After ICE Raid: 'It Looks Like Hell'
A "now renting" sign outside touts granite countertops. Inside, residents are trying to make sense of the raid that made their already neglected building even worse.

the GOP nuking the filibuster to end this shutdown is the best case scenario if we want a chance at fixing any of this shit we're going to have to get rid of it, better to let them do it themselves rather than worry about Fetterman pulling a Joe Manchin

Government Workers Say Their Out-of-Office Replies Were Forcibly Changed to Blame Democrats for Shutdown
Some employees at the Department of Education changed their responses back to the more neutral language, only to have it changed yet again to the partisan response, multiple sources tell WIRED.

Also: it makes zero sense to do a "deal" on any spending when Trump has already proven he will impound appropriated money at any time for any reason and SCOTUS has said repeatedly that him doing so is fine

This should be the whole point. It is an outright lie to vote for appropriations or legislation, of any kind, in a situation where the acts of Congress aren't really binding. It makes any possible "deal" worthless. The whole exercise is a sham. Dem votes would do nothing but legitimize the pretense.

BINGO! What's the point of doing a bipartisan budget if Trump and Russ Vought will just slash spending and lay off employees? Also, Republicans can just pass a party-line rescissions bill without any input from Democrats.

They are stealing taxpayer dollars from blue states because Democrats in Congress refuse to give Trump a blank check for his authoritarianism. Corruption. Coercion. Blackmail. Lawlessness. I won’t bend the knee to a wannabe dictator and his cronies. We will prevail.

I was sent this by a Georgian this morning. 2025 premiums vs 2026 premiums for someone making $65k a year. Republicans in Washington did this. This is what I'm fighting to stop. This is what’s at stake in this shutdown fight.

Now that Trump has shut down the government, Democrats need to be loud and confident in our argument. No 75% premium increases. No lawlessness. That’s what we are fighting for. The people will be with us. But only if we show strength.

Two senior Republican appropriators agree it doesn't make any sense for Democrats to agree to a government funding deal unless Trump actually adheres to the deal. The Democratic alternative CR had language that would address this, but the White House came out strongly against.

The remaining legal analysis is long and worth a read if you're a legal nerd like me. After ruling for the plaintiffs, Judge Young moves on to a remarkable section he calls "Justice in the Trump era," in which he asks "What now?" — acknowledging that given Trump, a remedy might not be obtainable.
