I tend to think one of the defining characteristics of this era is that when you scratch the surface of a famous person, you often find something dark and unpleasant, but when you scratched the surface of Sam Neill, it seemed like you found just more decency and delight. Rest in Peace, legend.

Netflix is struggling with keeping viewers "hooked" because it keeps canceling shows after 1 season so no one trusts a Netflix show to last. Its that simple, regardless of whatever their bullshit internal analytics are informing them.

Netflix has taught audiences not to watch shows until they find out if they're cancelled after one season on a cliffhanger or not. Which increases the chances they're cancelled on a cliffhanger. You see the issue here.

it’s very easy to split the difference here and understand why a public figure who worked with another recently deceased public figure would say kind things about them in public while random internet commenters who were harmed by their decisions might be unkind, we don’t have to discourse about it

graham choosing to put off medical care that likely would’ve saved his life because he was scheduled to be on meet the press in the morning is the most perfect encapsulation of his career one can imagine

i also think we need to stop writing off the senate as being where good ideas go to die and just demand more of our senators. there's no inherent reason it *has* to be this way, and whenever dems manage to take it, they prove it, the last dem senate was remarkably active

Lindsey Graham would’ve celebrated YOUR death, so we’re allowed to celebrate his.

one thing i forgot to mention, as an illustration of his character, is the way he sat back and said nothing when trump attacked his late friend, john mccain.

And it makes sense. Graham was famously a lifelong bachelor. He had a Senator's salary and no biological family to spend it on, so he spent it on sex workers. One COULD make the argument that the sex workers he hired were the closest thing he had to a family.

And Graham reportedly paid those sex workers a LOT of money. He was notoriously not just a regular client, but a LUCRATIVE client, one they could depend on when they needed to make rent and pay off student loans and such.

If anything, patronizing male sex workers who need the money is objectively the BEST thing Graham ever did with his wretched miserable life. What I'm shaming him for is his hypocrisy, and all the harm he did to LGBTQ+ people legislatively.
