a pretty important shower thought experiment that fermented in my brain the last few weeks: 1) imagine what you do in 3rd person, done by a monkey (you can choose it to your liking) 2) describe for a non-human being: "what does the monkey do?" 3) "is the monkey happy?" then argue with the answer.
