I opened figma's Make to try it – I had an annoying task I wanted to automate so I thought I'd give it a shot. I closed the tab immediately once I realized it was writing typescript, not actually building out elements in figma 😅 I wonder if they found that llms just can't work with their api?

I can't stop watching this 👀 it's fun to see a bit of what I'm going for with this ui framework already being demo-able: Mixing 2d ui layers with arbitrary "raw" layers that can take any arbitrary shader. getting like 7ms frames now with hardly any optimization, lots of headroom to improve!

Starting to get some nice complex layout going. Really happy with the choice to move over to parley for text, it's been great!

toy-ui marches on! I decided to give linebender's parley crate a stab for text layout & rendering (which is what you can see here.) However, looks like it is taking like... seconds to lay out a couple of paragraphs. Def doing something wrong here 😅

This is a much more eloquent way of what I've been screaming to anyone that will listen. Figma is siloing so many designers in to a specific way of designing, in a field who's lifeblood is exploration, creativity & expression. Our industry is so ripe for fresh, new (or a return to old!) tools.

Dictation is awesome, but also really sucks. Feels like this weird mix of magic and 1980s nostalgia tech. This is on macOS btw. I refuse to believe this is the extent of what we can do. What fancy, newfangled startup is working on this? Is there anything better today than the stock macOS one today?
