I have always been surprised the programming text editors don’t include semantics in ⌘F, for example “ignore matches within comments/commented out code” or “find only within string literals.” Does this exist, and I’m just using bad editors?

@gruber.foo Might be mildly interesting to you – just yesterday I was looking at the 1984 Mac manual, and I spotted a few screenshots of the UI with pre-release Chicago… with single-storey “a.”

It’s the 39th anniversary of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant disaster. If you’ve never watched the HBO series “Chernobyl,” I highly recommend it. The story is true, the acting is phenomenal, and the Soviet mid-1980s aesthetics are on point.

@thisdoesnotcompute.bsky.social Thank you so much for your channel! I find the videos great and surprisingly calming to watch, and I’m learning a lot about the 1990s Macs – an era I have never personally experienced. (Macs were too expensive in Poland.)

I took some old pixel fonts, turned them into vector fonts, but normalized their cap height… so the original pixel size is now serving as this new strange property – kind of like “pixel resolution.”
