hi! i'm looking for projects in the ATmosphere whose users are people in *organizations*. if that sounds like you or something you know about please reach out!

i feel this so hard. a realization i had about my career is that i'm basically trying to build towards a world where people build and use technology on their own terms, rather than get used by it. user data ownership is a starting point, but it extends far beyond that.

circling back to this because i think it's both! just used @microcosm.blue in conjunction with @habitat.network to quickly get a feature working that needs public + private data intermingled (local-first / without an appview)

We've been using this internally, and slowly pushing updates! Our permission model is described here! habitat.network/habitat/api/...

my favorite thing about #atmosphereconf is that it wasnt a technical conference. ppl were there to talk about humanity, not some tech stack watch @kissane.myatproto.social's "Landslide", or @offline.arushibandi.com's "Rewilding" talks to get a sense genuinely spiritual manifestos for a wounded web

i was nervous to give a "heartfelt" talk as @notplants.bsky.social called it, so i'm relieved and happy it resonated with people ❤️

I am really looking forward to Arushi's @offline.arushibandi.com talk. As we were wrapping #AtmosphereConf 2025, she said thank you & a few other kind words on her way out the door. So I'm very pleased to see this talk, "in conversation with several of the talks from last year"

wow was trevor paglen's talk at the sf moma a trip. one message in particular that feels relevant to @habitat.network "the images are now staring back" control over our data means no spying, and no spying means we are all less susceptible to manipulation online. more important now than ever.

if there's anything I've realized over the last month, it's that there are no *technical reasons* we can't have the internet we want. slowly, but surely (leaflet by leaflet) we're building that. a calendar app that can't track you. even with its minimal interface, what a magical feeling 🌱

does it get more SF than posting your startup's landing page on LinkedIn from cafe reveille? habitat.network

just curious, morning thoughts: what's the e2ee -- interoperability story? if i make an encrypted doc/data/whatever with one app (and that is stored interoperably via atproto for e.g) how can i then see all that through another client?

in light of *recent article*, who here has seen The 100 .....

i keep thinking about how much potential ATProto has when we look beyond big world use cases. there's so much more we do online than interact publicly (or semi-publicly!), and if we can make ATProto the default way to build for what i'm call "small world internet", i think a lot of magic can happen

beyond excited to be giving a talk at #ATmopshereConf and officially unveiling @habitat.network! i'll be talking about how we're trying to get away from skeumorphism (callback to @rude1.blacksky.team's talk from last year) and building for privacy-first usecases on the protocol. can't wait 🌱

will be really interesting to see what the bluesky team lands on and how it differs from @habitat.network! we're building for small groups and they're building for the ~millions of users case. "apps can see your data" feels like an example where different goals lead to different technical outcomes

From @eff.org's annual email today: "Your personal data shouldn’t feed a surveillance state" It shouldn't, but the reality is that as long as it can, it will. Which is why data privacy (private data?) is still the biggest open question for me when it comes to ATProto. More thoughts on that soon...
