This is actually incredibly interesting

Man, calendar apps have got to be like the most difficult problem space in the world, right? And I’m not talking about weird holiday patterns, I’m talking about sharing events and calendars, how to handle multiple platforms and services.

Neat! But the “business logic” is arguably the least difficult part of building a mobile app. Every app I’ve worked on has been 90% UI code 😕

One of those weird weeks where I feel exhausted, and I can’t tell if it’s because I’m struggling to keep up, or because I’m setting my own bar too high for myself.

The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice. Except it doesn’t bend on its own—it bends because we pull it in the direction of justice. What keeps me hopeful during times like these is being surrounded by people who are doing just that.

The weird thing about AI, is that if you showed it to someone 15 years ago, and you were like "this technology comes from the future", they would be like "yeah, that's exactly what I expected future to be like. Makes sense. Neat."

Thinking about lot about "reflexive impotence", where we believe nothing we can do will affect material change, so we don't try and it becomes self-fulfilling

Tip: buy a whole bunch of those 99 cent dish towels at ikea. Fold them up nice and keep a stack of them in the kitchen. Use them instead of paper towels to dry your hands, clean spills, whatever. Use once, then throw in a hamper. Toss them in your weekly laundry to clean and re-use.

Also big tech companies aren't building for people at all. They're building for advertisers. They're building for investors. They're trying to get government contracts. Facebook's business is "what would you pay to get billions of people to do what you want them to do?"

I'm worried that the over-reliance on AI is going to cause a brain-drain on skilled software engineers. When you don't practice a skill, you eventually lose it.
