As a heads up to designers, there is a new VTT, Fabled, that reached out to me about putting stuff on their site. They use AI to generate images for things in their store, homebrew images, etc. Avoid them, block them.

I will remind folks those images of Nazi book burnings aren't burning just any books. They're burning the library of Magnus Hirschfeld; a gay, Jewish doctor who created an institute dedicated to LGBTQ sex education and healthcare. And a man who pioneered gender affirming care surgeries.

I've always wondered if the discussion around these games reflects the quality of the work or the fact that I happened to write lot about them. It's really a core insecurity I have the games that I've worked on. Would they speak without this critical framing (the designer diaries, etc)? 🧵

This comment is revealing. Not of the commenter themself - but the impossible position creators are now in. The volatility of these tariffs - the constant changes and lack of clear communication or source of truth (policy by tweet is gross) means creators have no way of predicting their situation.

GMT is probably THE best producer of boardgames and conflict simulations in the world. Above all, it's privately owned with no stockholder crap, so it has business ethics and deals fairly with everyone. My closets are full of fantastic GMT games that I play on a weekly basis.

TTGDA statement about sensitivity around art depictions in games.

It would be really cool if I didn’t have to spend so much goddamn time thinking about whether or not I’m going to cover a game due to the thoughtlessness, ignorance, or potential malice of its publisher. So many self-owns over genAI, platforming bigots, and casual racism. It makes me fucking LIVID.

I am always acutely aware that my artistic choices affect others. Unfortunately, of late, publishers (my own included) are making choices that affect disadvantaged communities, not to mention their other artists. Publishers always need to ask who might be harmed. Don't go generic-just go kind.

GamingTrend echos this statement. We will not be covering Ace of Spades and urge Devir Games to do better.
