Just to pile on here... I worked with food banks for years. Yes, food donations are good but (as Nicole encourages) MONETARY DONATIONS ARE BEST. Food banks stretch $ on food (fill gaps donations miss etc) really well. Moreover, they need money for operating costs like power and staff wages.

I'm very envious that @cmyk.games has brought back Magical Athlete (gosh I wanted to). Games like this (and, quite frankly, Thunder Road: Vendetta) showcase that "roll and move" isn't inherently a bad thing. I also love the retro vibe illustration approach. I can't wait to try this new edition.

Studio H is publisher I think gets under-recognized. Vaalbara, Suspects series, and Middle Ages all show their dedication to smooth play with lovely production. So knowing nothing about Leaders other than these images and it's from Studio H? I'm instantly interested.

Exactly. I think 'gateway' games are great for people who will join the hobby. But it's survivor bias because we miss all the ones who bounce off them. Maybe we can convert people to thinking "actually I don't mind board games" and that is enough.

Also the aim is not to convert people to hobby gaming which is often the aim of people. The aim is for people to have fun!

... It should have one or two explicit rules maximum. Any ancillary rules should flow naturally from the handful of explicit rules. It should be immediately understood by anybody watching. A boardgamer should be able to look at the components and work out 90% of the game by the pieces alone.

(4) That game must be extremely simple. No, not Sagrada simple. Not Splendor simple. Keep going. You are talking to people who only own Monopoly at home. They literally cannot remember ever learning a board game. Everything they have played was transmitted in early childhood (incorrectly).

(3) But you must get them to play. These people absolutely will not buy anything without playing the game first. This is because (a) they don't think games are fun, and (b) they don't think they can learn a new game. Be aggressive. Keep offering. Give them that experience.
