My view is that there should be significant social cost to folks choosing to normalize or support generative AI. And as we see these systems doing more and more harm, that cost should go up.

In isolation I believe it could be, but these systems can’t be used in isolation. I just think we’re in nazi bar territory now, where using genAI normalizes (or even provides support for) systems that are also being used for pretty heinous things.

If you’re using generative AI for anything, I’m going to assume you’re using it for something exploitative and harmful when you think no one is looking.
