For anyone avoiding Starfleet Academy it's worth giving it a shot. It is the product of every single era of Trek with elements taken from every series while at the same time it has already found its own space as something unique. My spoiler free thoughts

A three thousand word first draft... I had more to say than I realised... As a DS9 fan there is one episode in particular I'm going to be revisiting multiple times.

Watched three episodes of Starfleet Academy this evening - having been unsure about it going in but I'm actually pleasantly surprised. Its Trek, but it's also new and different. I'll be sharing my full thoughts on the first six episodes soon.

The size of the world does not sell a game to me. Games are too big - give me a tight 10 hour story and I'm happy. Cheaper to make, cheaper to buy and there's more chance of a decent number of people seeing all your hard work.

Entertainment websites are disappearing, or having to double down on clickbait etc to keep going. A few thoughts, and a presumably futile request to Google for some guidance.

Goodnight, Iโm hoping to wake up to a slew of posts from anti-woke โcomediansโ who have spent years complaining about cancel culture and the oppression of free speech, defending Kimmel and condemning the F.C.C. Unless it was only an issue when you wanted to make jokes about the trans community?

The second season of The Orville has a run of episodes that beat all of Trek other than DS9 at its peak. Seth MacFarlane may not have the gravitas to lead but the writing and production values are pretty much perfect and it does a much better job than modern Trek in tackling difficult issues.

Inflation is up because of rising household bills - which are rising because of inflation - it's a self-fulfilling cycle that ensures those with money keep getting more from those that don't. Companies blame larger than inflationary price rises on the inflation they're creating anyway.

I've made the decision to move away from Google products. As someone who built a smart home around Google Home the continual decline in functionality - both through the intentional sunsetting of features and the platform become less reliable in its connectivity have made it a hurdle rather than help

Interesting seeing DVD rot being discussed as if it's recent news. It's something that was an issue for poorly manufactured discs less than a decade into the format's life and had been known about for coming up to 20 years now.

"Apple TV+ just launched the upgrade I've wanted for years that's changed my life" - arghhh, this hyperbolic bullshit is one of the things I really hate about digital journalism. A streaming app on Android isn't a life changing event.

Sounds like this is worse than it ever was when I was involved in film journalism. It was also as depressing to be told there was no space only to find 10+ people from the same publication were on jollies taking up seats that could have been used by people who would actually provide coverage.

I've generally enjoyed modern Trek despite all of the ups and downs but Section 31 was fucking terrible. It was never a good idea and should have been forgotten when the series was ditched in favour of Strange New Worlds.

Ahsoka has been lovely so far. While The Mandalorian and Boba Fett have been a real struggle, Ahsoka's live action take on Rebels is hitting the perfect balance between nostalgia and creating a new story.

Been trying to catch up with Futurama but I'm really struggling. The first four seasons were brilliant comedy and must watch TV, but I haven't laughed once in the new season so far. It feels it's suffering the same fate as The Simpsons did and maybe should have stayed cancelled.
