To put a finer point on it: If you want a Trader Joe's in your community but you don't want to allow housing that a Trader Joe's employee could afford to live in, you're an advocate for traffic creation.

It's me! Looked in North Seattle where I was renting and it was impossible to find anything affordable to buy. I now live in Shoreline (and love it!). Others should be able to afford the same, and that means more housing for everyone!

Update from Shoreline City Hall: we didn’t get a full win on parking reform tonight. But Council voted 6-1 to move on this within 6 months after more “community input.” Several CMs said that they’d heard a lot of support for parking reform and had “evolved” their thinking. Our advocacy is working!

Shoreline is also poised to legalize commercial uses in residential zones across the entire city, allowing cafes, restaurants, brewpubs, markets, hardware stores and professional services pretty much everywhere outside of culs-de-sac. Not just on corner lots, with parking maximums in many cases.

On the other hand, the Sierra Club, Puget Sound Sage, Habitat for Humanity, and SEIU 775 do like this amendment.

Tomorrow night Shoreline Mayor Chris Roberts is set to put forward an amendment that would eliminate parking mandates citywide. Near transit, no parking study would be required. Shoreline city staff do not like this amendment.

This is a photo negative of the problems caused by the status quo that people fight for when they want us to just keep doing what we're doing.
