to those who don't know very early on in development it was set up so you could pick your gender. time constraints while changing a fallout 1 style game to a first-person shooter led to cuts and that led to The JC we love. there is a mod though. fully voiced. That does bring back female denton

I wish the remaster of Deus ex that's coming out just went all in and made JC a woman

- talk to everybody at least twice, you'll miss out on *a lot* if you don't. - deus ex doesn't reward you for playstyles like the eidos games, only for accomplishing goals. much of the fun comes from using the various systems to your advantage however you want. - if in trouble, dragon-tooth sword.

first-time tips: - the early levels are punishing but it lets up around hong kong. - there's no wrong build, though avoid swimming maybe. - you'll see people recc computers as mandatory. however, *not* taking it requires you to engage with the world more for passwords. i find it more immersive.

Precision: Just to be clear, I don’t give a fuck about Deus Ex Remaster’s graphics… All I care about is fucking better lighting in the fucking vents! Because 90% of my energy cells and flares are spent making light in those in order to just fucking progress!

Honestly I get why the Deus Ex Remaster looks like that, because better textures on REALLY old models is gonna have that weird, really jagged look- but where is the techno noir lighting? Like, what happened to the moody shading that hid some of that? Why does this look like a Goldeneye level?

⛔I genuinely loved how fucking ugly looking the original was. Same charm as Half Life 1. Giant empty rooms dedicated to 3 whole boxy computer consoles and saran-wrapped-on people textures. The uggo is part of the charm for games like these. So it's hard for me to be upset.

⛔I hope they don't either. You can still buy the original Soul Reaver 2 on steam despite the Aspyr remaster being up, so that gives me hope they'll keep both DX1 original and the remaster. Side note, thank you for your hard work making a Ukrainian translation mod! 💛

⛔If you can run the original, definitely do it. But be aware the original has some very glaring issues. From ghost launching to being unable to tab out, to requiring a third party patch to play, it's not really smooth sailing. However you play, I recommend the original Deus Ex above all the others.

Can vouch for Revision being a fun way to re-experience Deus Ex. If you want a closer to vanilla touch there's always GMDX.

I'm mostly wondering how they're going to implement controller support. I've played Revision with a controller already but mapping keyboard and mouse to a PS4 controller isn't ideal.

They're probably rereleasing Deus Ex bc of how positive the reception for the Tomb Raider remasters were, but at least on PC this is unlikely to have the same result. Deus Ex has always been available in its entirety with minimal tinkering required, and Revision already updates it much further.

Gunther my beloved in HD let's GOOOOOO. So crazy that my first-ever playthrough of Deus Ex was in 2024. I'd argue it's more relevant now than ever, what with its anti-fascist themes (and how Elon is..... basically a DX villain IRL). Here's hoping this leads to more games in the series to explore.

⛔I genuinely believe that a number of Deus Ex fans are simply the kind of people that won't ever be happy unless things go exactly their way. As someone intensely criticial of games, I also have to pick and choose my battles because almost every game I love is dead or their reboots have been subpar.

Let's not forget that Deus Ex looked pretty ugly for its time (2000), and Deus Ex 2 looked pretty ugly for its time, too (2003).

⛔People are talking about how old JC Denton looks but I guess they forgot that the fan-made remaster also made him look even older and it was praised lol. I'm personally just happy more people can be exposed to Deus Ex 2000's writing now, and play it without patching and crash wonk when you tab out.

There's a lot of trepidation regarding Aspyr. My only experience with them has been their modern ports of Star Wars games, which I thought were functionally alright. Not had a proper shot of their Tomb Raider remasters yet.

Now that I've slept on it, I think I'm happy with the idea of Deus Ex just being that tiny bit more available. I think aspects of it have aged, but it's an important game, and it still has valid points and the ability to surprise. ...just hoping the the visuals can be changed to the originals.
