Liberal institutions have always been bipartisan when it comes to empire / capital. Whether you look at what they defended 100+ years ago, or look at what they do today, expecting these institutions to stand firm against Trump is just not the role they play or were ever going to play.

One mistake a lot of Democratic voters make is thinking that liberalism is a left wing or progressive ideology, when it was always right wing in nature. Its role has always been to contain the left, rather than the right. Liberalism is only progressive when the alternative is fascism.
