On the tenth anniversary of Brexit, the cost to the country is more stark than ever. We debated Defence investment in the Commons today. It felt appropriate to remind Conservative benches that leaving the EU has weakened our economy and as a result, made it harder to invest in our armed forces.

Another angle on this point, which I do think is going to be central for understanding these results. How does Labour's performance look relative to how Brexity wards are? Pretty flat - down 15-17 in Remain areas, down 20-22 in Leave areas. But patterns of seat loss are dramatically different. Why?

However the fall in Labour's vote (since 2022) is more strongly correlated with change in the Green vote than Reform over the same period.

1/ The results in England are clearly bad for Labour, but it is important to remember that change in vote share between elections doesn't tell us much about vote transfers between parties.
