Did you know your MacBook has a sensor that knows the exact angle of the screen hinge? Itās not exposed as a public API, but I figured out a way to read it and make it sound like an old wooden door.

With news of a reported settlement with Anthropic I went back to check the class action form and it now allows authors outside the US to input their address, so it may be worth adding your known pirated titles (from the LibGen pirate database)

Ah yes, the first video game AIs: Blinky, who chases Pac-Man, Pinky, who tries to get in front of him, Inky, who tries to flank you, and Claude, who generates a trail of bullet points and em-dashes and occasionally veers into white supremacist rhetoric.

2024 currently has more known games industry layoffs than 2023+2022 combined. 2024 is roughly 600 layoffs away from doubling 2023. There is still plenty of business days left in the month. I can't emphasize enough how extreme these last few years have been. So far.

Do any of my fellow Engineer/Programmer game devs have portfolio sites? If so, what do you put on there? Trying to describe what I've worked on, and it's a lot of words that only come to life when combined with art, design, audio, vfx, etc.

I did not have "writing sql for a Postgres database" on my bingo card for this year. Neither did I have "and connect to it from an app written in C". Dusting off old knowledge and trying to get into the correct mindset, seems you can never be free from backend dev.

One of the best things about making games is the amount of fun and joy that spontaneously happen during internal play tests. Some from unintentional bugs or features, itās also wonderful to see people react to something youāve made.
