Pizza places invented online ordering because chat interfaces are shitty and lossy. And yet, we've now bet our whole goddamn industry on chat interfaces. Ridiculous.

If you read this and say "nuh uh, not for me it doesn't!", then you are definitely missing the point, and there's a decent chance you're also wrong.

9-9-6 was a Chinese term invented mostly to show how depressing and lifeless work culture was; watching softbrained AI guys adopt it as an ideal is ... well, entirely predictable

On the one hand, LLMs are unethical. On the other, by living and working in the US, I am literally paying for children to be kidnapped and brought to concentration camps. Well, shit.

Every time the Trump regime uses the words "funded protesters" and "outside agitators" news outlets need to cut to this photo from last week. ICE has invaded these communities. Outside agitators don't show up in their fucking bathrobes.

I find it necessary these days to affirm the obvious because the descent into fascism is mostly a continuous, not discrete, process so here it goes: these are internal checkpoints by secret police for what is routine freedom of movement.

and myself, was published. A lot has changed in 4 years, and a lot has stayed the same. What interesting things have you done with threads in JS? LMK. Would love to publish anecdotes (with permission) in 2nd edition.

My daughter's school in Richfield, MN (adjacent to Minneapolis) is closing tomorrow due of out-of-control federal agents. Fourth graders spent the week building walls of snow at recess to protect their classmates from ICE. This isn't about immigration enforcement, it's about terror.

Today, we published a security release for
@nodejs.org
that fixes a critical bug affecting virtually every production Node.js app. If you use React Server Components, Next.js, or ANY APM tool (Datadog, New Relic, OpenTelemetry), your app could be vulnerable to DoS attacks. π

Say you're building an import/module system for a new language. What concepts would you include? What tradeoffs would you make? Does an existing system strike you as "good enough"? Why or why not? Plz discuss.

My dad turned 70 in December, so I wanted to buy him some really good scotch. As it turns out, in Michigan, all hard liquor is distributed by the state, and then sold to customers by independent retailers. As a result, it's the most transparent liquor market I've ever seen. 1/
